Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 falls on September 14th (Monday). This 10-day festival celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha — the remover of obstacles and deity of wisdom. The festival culminates with Ganesh Visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi (September 23, 2026). Maharashtra celebrates with grand public pandals, while families across India bring home Ganesha idols for 1.5, 3, 5, 7, or 10 days.
Bring Ganesha idol home. Perform Pranapratishtha (invocation of life force). Begin 10-day worship with Shodashopachara puja.
Morning and evening puja. Offer 21 modaks, durva grass, red flowers. Chant Ganesh Atharvashirsha daily.
Grand procession chanting 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudcha Varshi Laukar Ya'. Idol immersion in water. Farewell until next year.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is on September 14th, Monday. Chaturthi tithi begins on September 13th evening.
Ganesh Visarjan (for 10-day celebrations) is on September 23, 2026 — Anant Chaturdashi.
Lord Chandra (Moon) laughed at Ganesha's elephant head. Ganesha cursed that whoever sees the moon on Chaturthi will face false accusations. If accidentally seen, chant the Syamantaka gem story from Bhagavatam as remedy.
21 modaks is the traditional number. They should ideally be steamed (ukadiche modak) rather than fried. If 21 is not possible, offer as many as you can with sincere devotion.
Ask Pandit Shivananda for puja guidance and spiritual advice.
