Benefit: Awakens the intellect (buddhi), enhances clarity of thought, removes ignorance, and connects the chanter to cosmic consciousness.

How to Practice

Sit facing East. The best time is Brahma Muhurta (96 minutes before sunrise). Take a bath before chanting. Use a tulsi or crystal mala. Chant with correct pronunciation and understanding of the meaning. The Gayatri is traditionally taught during the Upanayana ceremony, but anyone with sincere intention can chant it.

Can women chant the Gayatri Mantra?

Yes, absolutely. The Vedas do not restrict the Gayatri Mantra by gender. Any person with sincere devotion can chant it. Restrictions emerged in later traditions but are not Vedic.

What is the meaning of the Gayatri Mantra?

We meditate on the glory of the Creator who has created the universe. May he illuminate our intellect and lead us along the path of righteousness.

When should I not chant Gayatri?

Avoid chanting during impurity (after meals without washing, after using the bathroom without proper cleaning, during menstruation in some traditions). But if in doubt, sincere mental chanting is always acceptable.
